2020 Northwest Finance Conference
Four Horsemen Investments cordially invites members of student-managed funds and finance students in the Pacific Northwest to attend the 2020 Northwest Collegiate Finance conference.
This year’s event will be hosted at the Wheelock Student Center, central to the University campus. At the event, lunch will be provided and refreshments will be served throughout the day.
4HI is hosting the second annual Northwest Collegiate finance Conference to bring together students of the finance community to build connections and learn about what other student-managed funds are doing.
We invite all student-managed funds to present about their research, operations of strategies for investing for no longer than 15 minutes.

Matthew Peterson is the Managing Partner of Peterson Capital Management, LLC. Peterson's Investment Fund was established in 2011 as a capital allocation vehicle with a mission to build enormous wealth for long-term partners. Matthew’s experience includes working with global financial services firms Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch, American Express, and Ameriprise Financial. Prior to forming Peterson Capital Management, LLC and launching Peterson Investment Fund I, LP, Matthew split time between Wall Street and London as Capital Markets Manager at Diamond Management and Technology Consultants. Matthew worked as a member of both the US and UK offices, with expertise spanning risk management and derivative processing. Matthew holds a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. He earned a Bachelor of Science in economics and a minor in mathematics from the University of Puget Sound.
Matthew Hedges is an investment director at Benchmark Plus Management, a hedge fund located in Tacoma. Hedges studied economics at Oregon State University and then pursued his master of finance at Vanderbilt's Owen Graduate School of Management. Hedges has had an extensive twenty-year career in finance, working as an options traders, a fixed income trader at Bear Stearns, and the Deputy Director of Fixed Income at the Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System. Additionally, in the last five years, Hedges has served as a board member for the Seattle Alternative Investment Association, an Adjunct Professor at Pacific Lutheran University, and a board member at the Tacoma Employees' Retirement System.
2019 Northwest Finance Conference
In extension to our three pillars of Experience, Research, and Outreach, Four Horsemen Investments organized and hosted our first annual Northwest Collegiate Finance Conference in April 2019. This conference provided an opportunity for finance students, professionals, and institutions across the PNW to network and share their work/experiences within the finance industry.
In 2019, Four Horsemen had the pleasure of welcoming Pacific Lutheran University's SMF, Regents Investment Fund, and the MBA program at Willamette University to share their findings and invite other student-managed funds to join us this April.
Patrick Adrian CFA: Research Manager at eVestment, a subsidiary of Nasdaq
Patrick currently works as a Research Manager for eVestment after facilitating Nasdaq’s acquisition of RedQuarry, a small Tacoma investment technology startup focused on providing solutions for research management. At RedQuarry, Patrick took on a variety of roles. From raising capital for the company to helping with the operational and product management side, he was heavily involved in every aspect of the business. Before his role at RedQuarry, he acquired his extensive foundational knowledge working as a partner at Monea Investments, a hedge fund he helped cofound following his work at Threshold Group wealth management. These experiences developed his expertise in the management and allocation of large pools of capital and helped Patrick garner a unique perspective on the role technology plays in the financial sector. Patrick’s impressive track record and breadth of industry knowledge make him an excellent Keynote speaker and we are proud to have such an influential voice at our conference.
Tim Allen: Retirement Director and CIO of TERS
Tim Allen spearheads the planning and operations for the Tacoma Employees Retirement System (TERS), serving more than 6,000 active and retired members while directly overseeing the $1.75 billion investment portfolio. He works directly under the Retirement Board of Administration and is responsible for all investment, actuarial and plan administration activities. Before his current role at TERS, Tim worked as a fixed income research manager for the U.S, Canada, and Europe within the Investment Division of Russell Investments and managed institutional fixed income portfolios as a senior vice president for Bank of America. We are incredibly honored to have Tim as a Keynote speaker and are eager to learn from his extensive fixed income expertise and management experience.
Andrew Fagan, CFA: President and CIO at Strategic Investments and Insurance LLC
Andy Fagan currently serves as President and CIO of Strategic Investments and Insurance LLC, an independent investment management and insurance advisory firm. An expert in all asset classes, Andy collaborates with investors and business owners to meet their goals and expectations. Before his current role, Andy compiled an impressive track record, including a twenty-two-year tenure at Russell Investments before transitioning into a Senior Vice President role at Key Bank. Additionally, Andy serves as a board member for the Tacoma Art Museum and the Greater Lakes Mental Health Foundation. We are excited to have such an integral member of the Tacoma community in attendance.
Luc Anderson: Financial Analyst and Graduate Student at PLU
Former Puget Sound Investment Club President and Founder, Luc Anderson is currently pursuing his Master of Science in Finance at Pacific Lutheran University. In addition to preparing for his CFA Level II, Luc serves as President of the PLU Graduate Fund. Luc’s financial acumen and leadership involvement in the Tacoma student community is complemented by his Operations experience Måløy Seafood in Norway, where he has improved production efficiency by roughly 65% by streamlining the output structure. We are honored to have Luc share his insights and provide feedback for stock contest participants.
Ryan Tate: Senior Software Engineer at M10 Networks
Ryan currently works as a Senior Software Engineer at Token Inc. and is the founder and CEO of Venture Equity Exchange. At UPS, Ryan served as president of Four Horsemen and the Phi Alpha Delta Pre-law fraternity while studying Business Administration and International Political Economy. A proven leader, Ryan’s extensive knowledge of financial models and management skills complement his computational and financial acumen. With a unique blend of computer science and financial knowledge, Ryan’s insights will be a valuable addition to our alumni panel.
